Gatlinburg is our favorite place to go. For us it holds fun, romance, relaxation, shopping - and a breath of fresh air before we even get there. The majestic beauty fills my soul when driving through the Great Smoky Mountains.
About four hours north of Atlanta, my husband and I used to sneak away a weekend a month for special alone time. There's everything from campsites to romantic cabin rentals, to hotels and motels on the main street where we can walk and shop.
Seems there's always a car show going on up there. Hot rods and muscle cars fill my husbands car loving heart while I shop for trinkets in the t-shirt shops or look at Appalachian crafter's handiwork.
I could write pages, so its hard to stay focused on what to tell you. I guess an overview would be this. When I was a single mom, I would bring my 3 children to Pigeon Forge - the sister city to Gatlinburg to visit Dollywood. There's countless things for kids to do there.
When I met my husband and we went up alone one weekend I saw the other side of the offerings. We stayed in Gatlinburg, spent some time walking around in the Great Smoky Mountains and it became so special to us that we got married there!
Just talking about it makes me want to pack up the car and go.
Here's two pictures where we stop on the way in to Gatlinburg. This spot fills my soul and rejuvenates the heart.
