Not only do we both have fond memories of our marriage proposal, our story is one we both love to tell.
We hope you enjoy this little walk down memory lane with us.
I had been thinking about creative marriage proposals for weeks leading up to the evening I had determined as my ideal night for popping the question.
It was a cool, early Spring day in late March.
Because I had taken Ballroom Dance lessons for two years, I knew what type of romantic occasion was coming up on that day. The Glenn Miller Orchestra would be performing at a six-hour dinner and dance.
If you have never been to one of these events, put it high on your romantic to-do list.
I had an idea that my girlfriend was on to me, so I purposely waited till later in the night.
This was creating a dilemma for me without my knowledge. The Orchestra played brilliantly through several memorable love songs that I purposely let go by. I wanted to keep her guessing on my intentions for the evening.
As the evening advanced the choices for just the right song were becoming fewer and far between. (I would find out later that my girlfriend was thinking that the night had creative marriage proposals written all over it but had given up on this being the night after a period of time.)
Five-hours and forty-five minutes after the dinner and dance began, the ideal song was finally played that fit creative marriage proposals perfectly. I had been sweating it myself for quite some time leading up to that song, regretting that I had allowed so many songs to go by earlier in the evening.
As you will see though, this too was meant to be.
Up to this point, they had played and sung several meaningful songs. But this one was the best of the night.
The lyrics to this song were the perfect fit for one of those great and creative marriage proposals.
The Song: “That’s All”.

Fifteen-minutes before the dinner and dance was over, we finally hear the perfect song.
I pulled my girlfriend to me and asked her during the song if she would marry me. (Since that’s Jessica in the wedding dress above, I guess that means she said yes.)
After the dance was over, we went to the members of the band and asked to purchase a copy of the song. We explained to them that we were another one of the many creative marriage proposals that have taken place at their performances over the years.
They didn’t have it! Worse, they didn’t even know who originally recorded it.
Shattered that we didn’t have a momentum of our creative marriage proposal, we drove home, and my girlfriend (now my fiance’) drove an extra hour after she left my house to get home herself.
After she left, I started looking over a Nat King Cole CD that I had received that very day. Guess what song was #17? You guessed it! “That’s All.”
I called my fiance’ and recorded it on her answering machine for her to hear when she arrived home.
It was perfect!

The girlfriend is in a handbell choir. Her boyfriend arranges with the director of the choir to have them play one last song at the end of the concert.

After a few hours he goes to visit his girlfriend with a bottle of lotion in his hand and asks her if she would please do him the favor of rubbing some lotion on his back.
